Founding Icon

Martyn Lawrence Bullard

Martyn's launch collection for Designer Alliance reads like a travel journal, with each piece carrying the story of a place and the legends that live there. The Cleo lamp draws on the romance and intrigue of Queen Cleopatra, whose tragic love affair with Mark Antony and fateful encounter with a serpent made the snake a timeless symbol in decorative design. The Tangier sconce is inspired by the pierced lanterns of Morocco and the bold, glamorous nightlife of 1930s and '40s Tangier, where ancient patterns met modern style and cast mesmerizing light across walls and ceilings. The Mirage sconce captures the Rat Pack spirit of Frank Sinatra's Rancho Mirage home, washing walls in a dazzling array of tiny prisms and evoking cocktail hour in the exclusive Palm Springs retreats of the stars. Together, these designs bring the history, glamour, and soul of Martyn's travels into the home.

The Manhattan

Some cities build upward out of ambition. Manhattan built upward out of conviction. The great towers of the island were never ornamental. They rose on structural logic: steel frames, repeating bays, vertical lines drawn without apology. The Manhattan takes its cue from that clarity with its clean lines and sophisticated finish. Not spectacle, but structure.

The Andalusia

This collection is inspired by the beautiful ironwork of the palaces and the Moorish influences that subsequently spread throughout Spain and the Mediterranean, echoed in villas and palaces across the continent.

The Rio Pendant

One of Martyn's favorite design memories is the calçada in Rio de Janeiro. The wave-patterned beachfront pavement and its contrasting stones laid by hand is a rhythm you feel before you notice the pattern. The Rio collection is Martyn's ode to that icon: open curves repeating in steady measure, each one holding light in an opal glass globe the way the pavement holds the tide.

The Trousdale

The Trousdale

Named for the Beverly Hills enclave where mid-century modern became a way of life. The homes capture a timeless elegance, but their scale commands attention. The Trousdale carries that same confidence. Its scale holds a room effortlessly, just as those mid-century modern homes sit today: deliberate and at ease.

The Cleo

Cleo draws on the legend of Cleopatra, and on the serpent that has carried her symbolism through decorative design ever since. A brass serpent coils the length of the stem and arches over a linen shade, holding the light within its curve. Such tales of snakes and their historical importance have always found their way into the decorative home, and this elegant lamp has all the power, intrigue and romance of Cleopatra herself.
